The mystery of Tamaki Suoh

tamaki1.jpg Hey, guys. You’re probably wondering what in the world happened to me! No, I didn’t stop blogging for a while because I was peeved off with the whole yaoi issue. (I had a very bad day, no, week, when I wrote that post.) It’s more like real life run me over and flattened me over for a while. Work, work, work, and more work … blah. But anyway, enough of me whinging about work – let’s talk about Ouran High School Host Club’s Tamaki Suoh, shall we?

Ah, the show has finally ended. I just cannot believe that it’s over so fast. Please, ye gods of anime – let there be a second season!

The main reason why I was pulled into Ouran High School Host Club was mainly because of Tamaki Suoh. At first, I was entranced by his seiyuu’s talent, the same guy who voiced Kiba in Wolf’s Rain –  Mamoru Miyano.

But then, as I watched it more, I began to really like Tamaki, especially when his angsty past is revealed. How he dealt with his grandmother’s snub at the school festival is admirable to a fault (I read the manga’s version, though I kinda like the anime’s version). And to echo what Kyouya said in the anime: “It’s good that Tamaki is the way he is.”

Is Tamaki really as dumb as he behaves? (Okay, maybe we shouldn’t answer that.) Yes, he may be a dumb blonde (apologies to all blondes around the world) but one cannot deny that he shows surprising insight into people. In fact, almost genius level, actually.

It’s obvious that Tamaki is the glue that holds the club together. And it’s also obvious that everyone – barring Haruhi, perhaps (she mostly tolerates him!) – loves Tamaki. And why not? Tamaki not only accepted them for who they are, no matter how mean they are (the Twins) or how manipulative (Kyouya), he also gave them an insight to their own characters that forced them to change.

Tamaki has this uncanny ability to see through the mask Kyouya, the Twins and Honey put up. I still remember Kyouya getting shocked (darn, we don’t see him shocked often enough) when Tamaki saw through the mask of politeness he had to reveal the unhappy guy beneath. Tamaki also helped Kyouya out of his rut (his resignation that as the youngest son, he can’t succeed his dad’s company) by telling him the obvious: You’re giving up. Don’t give up.

No wonder the guys love him; Tamaki accepted them despite seeing what they really were.

So at times like that (especially with that scene with Kyouya when he told the guy pointedly that he has already given up before even trying) you do wonder whether Tamaki is putting up a mask of his own, this whole dumb ass act.

Though, apparently, after reading the manga it seems that he really does believe that he’s Haruhi’s father.

Dumb, or not dumb?

Hmm, Tamaki, a mass of contradictions …

Heh I love Tamaki and i most definatly believe that without him Ouran wouldn’t be worth watching, (Ive a bit of a soft spot for the dumb , Scarily considerate, kind blond(another one being Gourry from slayers though he’s more Thick than kind)).

I have to say Tamaki can’t be all that Stupid if you remember that episode that showed the exam result positions (But then i guess it is possible to be intelligent and dumb at the same time 0_o……….Ah actually that doesn’t make sense does it? heh

Honestly, I don’t think Tamaki’s dumb, just out there. He just thinks differently than most people would. I suppose for him to have the ability to see through people’s masks and accept them as they come, he must have access to a different part of the world that most of us don’t. Then I guess he just hangs out there a tad bit too often. =/ The different, possibly orange light that Tamaki sees everything in probably influences his expressions to the world. All he sees is happiness. =) Aah, to be blissfully ignorant.

Also, it IS possible to be stupid but smart. I have a friend who gets all A’s and a couple of B’s, but she understands sarcasm as well as rocks. Another one of my friends is a C student, but sarcasm is like his native language. Wisdom and intellect are two different things; two different worlds.

I absolutely love Tamaki. His being able to shrug off the reality of his unwanted predicament is admirable. I agree with Kyouya that it is good that he is like that. Many people in the world would be tonnes happier if they did the same. But yes, he is something of a ditz, isn’t he? I guess, his happy-go-lucky demeanour is some sort of mask- a very thick one which sometimes shields reality to the point of blindness. That’s why he doesn’t realise that he is sometimes pushy or the fact that he likes Haruhi. Being a typical romantic, I also love his absolute charm and good looks. Hoiw many of us in real life forgo our dream guys just because the real ones are totally hopeless, undependable and unromantic?(No offence to the guys out there! Remember, I am a typical romantic)…

    Tamaki..!
    You’re the best..!
For the first time, I thought that he was a dumb too..
(He’s the favorite host in fact.)
I thought that he was just so lucky for having rich family and good looks..
And that time, I liked the Twins better that Tamaki..
(Though I still like them now..)

Hey, next time. let’s talk about Honey..! (the rabbit boy..!)
    Sweetie..! (>.<)

LOL… I must agree that I saw him as an idoit at the very beginning… but of course I fall for him in the episode 26 ha ha xD!

Well… he is very charming and even thought he dumb but he can be smart too lol…. xD

  16. Annie says:

Yeah, I agree with it all. His voice is absolutely incredible and his character is (to quote Haruhi:) “deep…very deep”.

Though (FINALLY!) Haruhi has realised her feelings for this gentleman. Fingers crossed to see whether this relationship goes anywhere…

It’s Tamaki vs. Hikaru. Ahhh lucky lucky Haruhi; she doesn’t have to wish Tamaki’d morph off the screen.
