Bongbong Marcos says FM body could be transferred to Libingan ng mga Bayani in September

Prior to the elections, incoming President Rodrigo Duterte made a controversial campaign promise to give former President Ferdinand Marcos a burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

Looks like he plans to keep his word.

Over the weekened, Senator Bongbong Marcos said that the remains of his father might be transferred to the Libignan ng mga Bayani in September this year.

“The discussion was very informal but we’re eyeing (to make it happen) on September. We agreed that it will happen this year,” the younger Marcos said in an ABS-CBN report

Duterte’s decision received criticisms from martial law victims who suffered under the Marcos dictatorship. However, Duterte said that the burial of Marcos can help the land heal.

“I will allow the burial of President Marcos sa Libingan ng mga Bayani, not because he is a hero…but because he was a Filipino soldier. Period. That can be arranged immediately,” Duterte said in a press conference.

“Yang issue na yan has long created a division amongst our people.” (“That issue has long polarized our people.”)

The Libingan ng mga Bayani, in Taguig City, is a national cemetery where remains of the country’s heroes, including soldiers and some of the former presidents, are laid to rest.
