Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) founding chairman Nur Misuari has married again in a discreet ceremony in a remote barangay in Sulu province, according to a high-ranking official of the MNLF.
Habib Mudjahab Hashim, the MNLF Islamic Command Council chairman, said the new wife of Misuari is a native of Talipao municipality in Sulu. She is the fourth wife of Misuari. This is allowed under Islamic belief and traditions.
Hashim said the marriage ceremony was held a few months ago and because Misuari remains a fugitive, there were limited invited guests.
Misuari has a standing arrest warrant in connection with the attacks of his armed followers in Zamboanga City last 2013. He was included in the filing of cases of rebellion and violation of international humanitarian law.
The deputy commander of Naval Forces Western Mindanao, Col. Arthur Biyo, said after the Zamboanga siege, they received information that Misuari has been hiding in one of the MNLF’s camps in Sulu.
Government forces, however, cannot just enter the MNLF camp and arrest Misuari. Biyo said they expect resistance from the armed followers of Misuari.
The military has been studying and planning their operation on how to arrest the founding chairman of MNLF who opposed the peace agreement between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), saying this is a violation of the 1996 peace agreement signed with the MNLF.
Misuari’s group also believes that the peace accord with the MILF is an abrogation of the Constitution itself.
Hashim said Misuari has been monitoring the development of the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) in Congress and has not changed his mind in pursuing a separate independent state following the refusal of the government to fully implement the provisions of the 1996 peace agreement.
