SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Missouri S&T fell behind in the opening seconds of Sunday's Great Lakes Valley Conference men's soccer match at Illinois Springfield, then surrendered three goals in a span of just over 90 seconds midway through the second half as it fell by a score of 4-0.
The Prairie Stars (4-1-1, 2-0 GLVC) got on the scoreboard just 22 seconds into the contest when Max Tweddle sent Anton Aduwa-Emovan on a breakaway behind the S&T defense and he put a shot into the far right side of the net. The game remained that way until the 70
th minute, when the Prairie Stars scored three times in under two minutes to break the game open.
Joe Conway scored the first goal in that span, as a cross by Brian Riordan got past S&T goalkeeper
Davis Joseph (Andover, KS/Andover Central) and left Conway with an open net to shoot into. Or Levinstein scored the next two goals for UIS, scoring 43 seconds after the Conway goal and getting his second tally 50 seconds later.
S&T's best scoring chance came in the 64
th minute, when
Connor Hui (Markham, ON/Bill Crothers) had a headball attempt in the box that was stopped by UIS goalkeeper Andrea Scapolo.
The Miners, who dropped to 1-4-1 and 0-2 in the GLVC, were outshot 17-7 in the game and Hui's headball try in the second half was the only shot on net for S&T. Joseph made two saves in goal for S&T, who will open the home portion of its GLVC schedule Friday when it hosts Southwest Baptist at 7:30 p.m.
