Pharrell’s All-Crocodile Louis Vuitton Speedy Bag Will Cost You a Cool $1 Million

The creative director's ultra-high-end take on the iconic bag is now being made to order for top clients.

Who says you can’t teach an old bag new tricks?

When Pharrell Williams made his debut as men’s creative director of Louis Vuitton this summer, the (many) designs he sent down the runway included ultra-high-end iterations of the brand’s beloved Speedy bag. Williams was later seen carrying one such bag, crafted from crocodile leather and lined with lambskin—instead of the coated canvas toted around by scads of globe-trotters—in the wild. That version now appears to be available to purchase, but only if you’re a very, very, very good Louis Vuitton customer.

Thanks to a screengrab shared by L.A. Clippers power forward PJ Tucker on Instagram, we now know that the bag, dubbed the “Millionaire” Speedy, is only available on a made-to-order basis. And its $1 million price tag isn’t the only reason it lives up to its name. The bag is not available on Vuitton’s website, which likely means you have to be invited to purchase it. If you secure such an appointment, you can choose from a variety of crocodile colors, including rouge (red), vert (green), bleu (blue), and marron (brown). Both the bag, handles, and leather strap appear to be crafted from crocodile, and the body of the bag is topped by the label’s signature LV monogram. There’s also a gold chain and an engraved gold lock for good measure, though whether these are gold-tone or gold-plated—or, you know, solid gold—was not immediately known.

Williams has been photographed a number of times rocking the bag. We first saw the Grammy-winning artist with it at Loewe and Kenzo shows during Paris Fashion Week earlier this fall. He paired it with an all-black relaxed suit, baseball cap, and Halo of Light-style sunglasses to the former, as well as a navy Kenzo look featuring red clogs. A day after both shows, he turned up for the Dior Homme SS24 show with the bag in a head-to-toe denim look featuring LV pins.

The colorful bag is also available in non-croc version, according to Hypebeast—but the site notes that you still have to be invited to place an order for these rarefied bags. A handful of other stars (and personal friends of Williams’s) have been seen carrying it, including Priscilla star Jacob Elordi, as well as Vuitton models Rihanna and LeBron James. Both of those boldfaced names have been showcased alongside the bags in ads that debuted this summer.
