Young Kapamilya stars and a destructive typhoon are among the past week's most popular search topics.

1. Melissa Ricks. While ABS-CBN viewers are eager to know Elisa's whereabouts, Yahoo! Philippines users are searching for Melissa Ricks, the actress who plays the lead role in the mystery drama "Nasaan Ka Elisa?" It is this Philippine remake of the Chilean television series "¿Dónde Está Elisa?" that gave the Filipino-American actress a big break after her break-up with Jake Cuenca.

2. Typhoon Pedring. The rains that Typhoon Pedring (Nesat) brought to Luzon last week summoned terrifying memories of the destructive 2009 typhoon Ondoy, which submerged parts of Metro Manila and claimed hundreds of lives. Typhoon Pedring killed more than 60 people, and its damage may cost more than Ondoy's 11 billion pesos, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

3. Daniel Padilla. Fans searched for teen actor Daniel Padilla on Yahoo! after he guested on "Gandang Gabi Vice" with fellow Kapamilya heartthrobs Neil Coleta and Diego Loyzaga. Daniel, 16, was picked as the replacement for his controversial friend, Albie Casiño, in the youth-oriented show "Growing Up."

4. National Career Assessment Examination. Due to Typhoon Pedring, the Department of Education (DepEd) postponed the National Career Assessment Examination (NCAE) in Luzon. Set for September 28, the exam date was moved to September 30. But DepEd also gave its regional offices the discretion to reschedule the NCAE depending on the area's weather condition. The NCAE is expected to show the interest and career inclination of junior high school students.

5. Latest Nokia phones. Nokia may not be as strong in other parts of the world, but according to a survey by Nielsen, it is the top cellphone brand in the Philippines. It also received from the Reader's Digest Asia 2011 Trusted Brands Award its 10th Platinum Award. Among the recently announced cellphone models of Nokia in Philippines are Nokia 101, a dual-SIM phone, and the N9, a high-end smartphone running on the Meego operating system.

6. Mario Maurer. Thai model-actor Mario Maurer returns to our trending searches list after Filipino clothing line Penshoppe confirmed that he is the brand's new endorser. His followers anticipate the scheduled October 28, 2011 fan conference at the PICC Plenary Hall in Manila. The event will be hosted by MTV VJ Utt -- who is also from Thailand -— and the Pan-Asian group Blush is set to perform.

7. Anne Curtis. The Philippines' Twitter Queen is also back on Yahoo!'s trending list. Her movie with Cristine Reyes and Derek Ramsay, "No Other Woman," opened on September 28 and has grossed 100 million pesos in five days, according to Star Cinema.

8. GMA News TV. News organizations are a popular search topic among Filipinos, especially in times of typhoons and other disasters. During the week that Typhoon Pedring hit the country, GMA News TV, GMA Network's news channel, had the most buzz on Yahoo! Search. GMA News TV International was launched in Australia last October 1.

9. Shalani Soledad. The Filipino people's favorite ex-future first lady, Valenzuela City Councilor Shalani Soledad, returns to the trending list for the second time this month. After the announcement of her engagement with Pasig City Rep. Roman Romulo, a wedding date has reportedly been set. "Startalk" TV host Ricky Lo tweeted that instead of February 2012, couple's union "has been reset to Jan. 22, 2012 upon the advice of a feng shui expert."

10. PBA team standings. The 37th PBA season opened on Sunday with Shamcey Supsup and Smart Gilas Pilipinas team members as special guests. Now that the games have begun, fans who must have missed the matches search for the team standings on Yahoo!. As of this writing, Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, Petron Blaze Boosters, and Powerade Tigers have one win each.
