All dressed up, and not many places to go.

Vienna Airport’s not that busy either, by the look of it.

Well, safe to say the Instagrammer was not flying to Kiev or anywhere in unoccupied Ukraine. Nor to Siberia, which is a pity because Gergiev and Putin need house singers in the frozen vastness. She is, after all, in perfect vocal state to assume any assignments there.

    • Yuri K says:

One must be mad to fly to Kiev now. They had a major sewage pipe break up and half-city is reportedly flooded with feces.

    • zayin says:

So many LOGOS, but everything screams CHEAP.

If you’re going to plaster yourself with logos, better with counterfeits than off brands.

I don’t know if the pearls and diamonds Callas wore were all real, but they looked chic and timeless. Netrebko looks cheap and clueless, or homeless.

  • Potpourri says:

Anna Netrebko’s schedule for the next few months looks busy with performances in Paris, Budapest, Salzburg, Naples, Wiesbaden, Istanbul, Lucerne, Milan, Verona and Linz.More will be added when the 2023-2024 season is announced.

    • Jean says:

I am not surprised about her visit to Orbanistan.

But France, Austria, Germany, Italy… that’s quite sad. But I shouldn’t be surprised: oligarkh money talks.

      • Ludwig's Van says:

And in the meantime, Met audiences have to suffer a Nabucco with Liudmyla Monastyrska….Day mne peredokhnut’!

  • Carl says:

Between this post and the Domingo one, it’s a real rogues gallery of opera singers on SD this morning. Nice jacket?

  • PS says:

I see THE TOTE BAG everywhere. I don’t understand it, but it’s certainly popular.

    • Dixie says:

The term “tote bag” is practically prehistoric, at least in the US. It means a bag with which one can “tote” things around, ergo tote bag. Now it would seem that it has also become a brand name.

  • P. Terry says:

    What DOES she look like??

  • IP says:

    Finally a chain to match.

  • Tiredofitall says:

Yikes…the very definition of fashion swag…are there no mirrors in Vienna?

  • SlippedChat says:

In good humor, based on first impressions of the photo:

Biggest damn headphones I’ve ever seen, but it was cute to wrap them in white fur to conceal the hardware and make them seem less “industrial.”

Vienna in January, so those bare upper arms must be getting chilled. Hope she can get the shoulder seams mended.

Too bad the black liner of the jacket is turned inside-out.

Had no idea she was a baseball fan.

Glad the tote bag was labeled “The Tote Bag.” Very helpful. Otherwise wouldn’t have known what on earth it was.

Assume that the neckwear will need to come off if she ever sings the pop song “Unchained Melody.”

It’s all . . . uh . . . an “interesting” self-presentation. But I’m a guy who buys a lot of his shirts at a good nearby thrift shop, so what do I know?

Was recently watching the video of her Donizetti “Elixir of Love” with Villazon. Enjoyable as always. Two apparently carefree young singers still early in their careers. Much has changed.

  • Save the MET says:

    Haute babushka!

  • Taras Bulba says:

    Pure class…

  • Luke says:

She’s already been rightfully cancelled, so she can take all the risks she wants. Never underestimate karma or good fashion!

  • Stephen Sweigart says:

Great artist who express her beliefs without concern for Western Progressive intolerance. Which denies the human right to freedom of expersion.

    • Helmut Camillo Fischer says:

Basically all she asked was not to be compelled to make a predicated political statement, demanded by people who had no price to pay when signaling their “virtue”. But sadly many are too stalinist in their attitudes to allow even that.

  • Broni says:

She looks like she wants to be a young girl she is not anymore. Awful outfit! Jusif’s kitschy style. A d the haircut is not appropriate. But it’s her business.

  • Maria says:

Wonder what the fur is supposed to do? Two big ears by the look of it! Hardly flattering.

  • A.L. says:

    Anna the Gangsta Rapper

  • Potpourri says:

Anna Netrebko’s sponsors must be thrilled with all the publicity they are getting on one of the most popular opera blogs in the world. The usual commentators are not their target audience. Sponsors want the women who consider Netrebko a fashion icon and can afford the eclectic fashions she wears.

  • SPB says:

You can take a girl from the village but you can’t take the village from a girl.
