We recommend a lot of travel gear here at Condé Nast Traveler, from the best suitcases to get your stuff from point A to point B to the travel accessories that make being in-flight more enjoyable. And while most of the items we test out and review are things you'd bring with you on the road, there's one item that's become just as much a part of my travel routine as the carry-on and Dopp kit I bring with me, but never leaves the house: a luggage rack.

All the credit goes to my mom for this find: For as long as I can remember, she's had one in the guest room for visitors to use when unpacking. Like the ones you'd find at a hotel, it folds up neatly when not in use, then unfolds to hold your suitcase, so you can avoid putting in on the bed or placing it on the floor. Oftentimes I half unpack when I visit home, and the height of the rack makes it easy to access items as I need them. The one we have has a shoe rack underneath it, too, that fits a few pairs of sandals or sneakers; sometimes I'll put my shoe bags or packing cubes down there, too.

While a nice touch for visitors (for those with guest rooms, or Airbnb hosts), I'd argue it's just as useful to have one in your own bedroom. Even if you clean your suitcase when you arrive home from the airport or a road trip, you may not want to put your suitcase on top of your bed when packing for the next trip. Similarly, if you're not one to immediately unpack when you get home, placing your carry-on or checked bag on a luggage rack gets it out of the way and up off the ground as you slowly put your things back. And on a less practical note, it just makes you feel a little fancier, bringing some of the hotel room magic home with you—there may not be a housekeeper to make your bed in the morning, but at least you won't trip over your still-full suitcase on the way to the bathroom at night.

We've had two of the Casual Home luggage racks since 2016, and they've held up nicely, especially given the price. The rack can hold even my largest (and heaviest) suitcase, but doesn't require a ton of storage space. Another plus: It comes preassembled. We have it in walnut, shown above, but it's also available in white, espresso, honey oak, or natural.

The rack is marked as an Amazon's Choice item—a somewhat elusive term, as Wired has reported on, but one that prioritizes products that are highly rated, well-priced, and available to ship immediately. And there are indeed plenty of customer reviews to back it up: of the nearly 5,000 on Amazon, 84 percent are five-star.

As far as luggage racks go, there are tons of options out there, at a range of price points. Below, I've rounded up several more styles that have solid reviews and fit a variety of decorating aesthetics, from a wooden rack from Hearth and Hand to a woven birch wood option for those looking to splurge. Take it from me—once this becomes part of your packing routine, you'll want one in every room.
