Melissa Ricks married her non-showbiz partner Michael Macatangay in an intimate ceremony held on May 23 in Los Angeles, California.
On Instagram, Melissa wrote, "Our wedding. Our special day made special by my closes friends and relatives here in California in only three weeks!"
On the day of her wedding, Melissa recounted that Michael cooked breakfast and the couple made a quick trip to the grocery to buy some snacks and soda for their guests, ate fast food, and went home to get ready.
The actress added, "I did my own hair and makeup, zipped myself into my gown, drove down to the chapel, had a simple ceremony with 15 people. Afterward, we had the reception in my stepdad’s backyard. Couldn’t get any simpler than that."
In a separate post that showed the happy couple at their reception, Melissa shared, "Five years ago I was in a totally different place in my life, I wouldn’t think I would be where I am today. God has truly been good, he has answered my prayers as he has promised."
The couple announced their engagement in August 2020, where Michael proposed to the actress in Batangas.
In the post, Melissa shared that she met Michael at the Jesus the Anointed One Church in Rosario, Batangas. She wrote: "It’s true, rock bottom is where you rebuild your life, where God will rebuild your life. Sometimes, God mixes up your plans, tests your faith."
Melissa said she would make it a point to attend Sunday services in Batangas whenever she could as she felt right at home there. She recalled that in one of her visits, she thought, "Lord, baka naman po may ma-meet ako dito, yung alam ang sakit, yung napagdaanan na ang lahat, yung masipag, mabait, mahal ako and mahal yung anak ko, but most of all, may takot sa Diyos. Sana po may makatabi ko."
A few months later, Melissa said that she would walk into church with her daughter Kiera and they sat in the front row—right next to Michael.
