Misa de Gallo

Today, December 16 starts the nine-day Aguinaldo Masses or Misa de Gallo. This celebration is offered for the perseverance of the nation in the faith. In honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, our Mother and woman of faith, this beautiful Filipino tradition is one of its kind throughout the world.

As our preparation for the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, gradually intensifies, we must realize more deeply how blessed we are. The God-with-us, Emmanuel, is the greatest blessing that we, believers receive. We may physically feel the weakening of our bodies in these 9 days as we approach the birthday of the Lord but this should not deprive us of the same vigor and inspiration brought about by the presence of the Lord Jesus in our daily life. We need to become more thankful each day knowing how the Messiah has provided us with what we really need. The gift of himself should be our main motivation to offer our sacrifices rather than expect for something trivial.
