Misa de Gallo

editorial misa de galloThe Philippines is the only nation in Asia observing the Misa De Gallo. Misa means Mass or Celebration of the Eucharist. Gallo is rooster in Spanish. The rooster starts crowing loudly at around 4:30 am everyday. Because the faithful wake up at dawn to participate in the 5 am Mass from Dec. 16 to 24, the Spaniards call the 9 day novena as Misa de Gallo.

The Filipinos working abroad believe that the Christmas season is complete only if Misa de Gallo novena is also celebrated. In nations where there are thousands of Filipino workers like Japan, Singapore, America, Hong Kong, the Misa de Gallo has become also a part of the culture and tradition of the big cities of these countries.

We ask the parents to continue attending the Misa de Gallo so that their children will be inspired and will continue this beautiful and joyous tradition. What is a Christmas season without the Misa de Gallo?
