If you've ever struggled to eat your five to nine servings of fruit and vegetables per day, you'll want to follow Japanese artist Gaku's Instagram account immediately.

In his feed, you'll find dozens of mesmerizing examples of mukimono, the Japanese tradition of food carving. While you've probably seen mukimono before at sushi restaurants in the form of carrot flower garnishes, Gaku takes this art to the next level by carving insanely intricate patterns into everything from broccoli and radishes to apples and bananas.

According to the blog Spoon & Tamago, Gaku creates these carvings using an X-Acto knife and whatever produce is on hand—and he's got to work incredibly fast to capture the final images before the fruit or vegetables oxidize.

Gaku doesn't just carve patterns into fruits and vegetables — he also sculpts them into works of art like these lettuce creatures and radish flowers.
