Taking to Instagram on Tuesday (August 8), Fox – who features in the upcoming film The Expendables 4 – wrote: "These poems were written in an attempt to excise the illness that had taken root in me because of my silence."

She continued: "I've spent my entire life keeping the secrets of men, my body aches from carrying the weight of their sins.

"My freedom lives in these pages, and I hope that my words can inspire others to take back their happiness and their identity by using their voice to illuminate what's been buried, but not forgotten, in the darkness."

A press release from publisher Simon & Schuster labelled the book a "powerful debut from one of the most well-known women of our time". The book is said to contain "heartbreaking and dark" poems and"showcases her wicked humor".

Fox, who is currently engaged to rapper Machine Gun Kelly, shares three children with her ex-husband Brian Austin Green.

Her venture into poetry comes just months after she opened up about her struggles with body image.

In a video for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2023 issue in May, she shared: "I have body dysmorphia – I don't ever see myself the way other people see me. There's never a point in my life where I loved my body, never, ever."

The Expendables 4 arrives in cinemas on September 22, 2023.
