Amazingly, Channel 4's Queer as Folk is nearly 20 years old. The series, following the lives of three gay men living in Manchester launched back in 1999.

Created by future Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies, it is still considered one of the best and most groundbreaking TV dramas ever, and even spawned an American version, which ran for five seasons from 2000.

The series focused on highly sexually active Stuart, his long-time friend Vince and 15-year-old Nathan, who was new to the gay scene. The show was both a realistic look at gay urban life in the 1990s as well as a fantasy tale deconstructing gay male archetypes.

But what has the cast been up to since?

1. Aidan Gillen (Stuart)

After appearing as the rampant Stuart, Aidan soon landed a role in the critically-acclaimed US drama The Wire, as politician Tommy Carcetti.

Following four years in the role, he went on to star in Thorne, Love/Hate and Law & Order, before landing his biggest role so far, the dastardly Petyr Baelish (aka Littlefinger) in Game of Thrones. He also joined the cast of Peaky Blinders.

Meanwhile, he has also had movie roles in The Dark Knight Rises, Calvary, Beneath the Harvest Sky and the Maze Runner series.

2. Charlie Hunnam (Nathan)

You might not have even recognized Charlie as 15-year-old Nathan Maloney. Before the show, he had only had a couple of minor roles including Byker Grove.

After earning praise for the role, he went on to star in Judd Apatow's cult comedy series Undeclared. In 2008, a newly buff and bearded Charlie landed his biggest and most famous role as Jax Teller in biker gang drama Sons of Anarchy.

He has since gone on to become a hot property in Hollywood, landing big roles in The Ledge, Deadfall and 2013 blockbuster Pacific Rim. He famously turned down the lead in 50 Shades of Grey, and most recently led the cast of the somewhat disappointing King Arthur: Legend of the Sword: Legend of the Sword.

3. Craig Kelly (Vince)

Following his most famous role as Doctor Who fan Vince, Craig has continued to take on a diverse selection of roles, including a year's stint in Coronation Street as Underworld factory boss Luke Strong.

Other post-QAF roles have included Waking the Dead, Afterlife, Collision, and as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing in 2009 (he came ninth) and voiceover work on Shipwrecked: Battle of the Islands. He also did the voice for a Nutella advert in 2014. A career high for anyone, we're saying.

4. Antony Cotton (Alexander)

Antony has become something of a household name after more than a decade in Coronation Street as Sean Tully, but Queer as Folk was his breakthrough role, playing Stuart and Vince's flamboyant pal Alexander.

He also popped up as a contestant on Soapstar Superstar, was victorious on the 2013 series of Let's Dance for Comic Relief and even briefly had his own chat show on ITV, That Antony Cotton Show.

5. Denise Black (Hazel)

Denise has been in pretty much every TV show you can think of since she played Vince's mum Hazel. These have included stints in Benidorm, Doctors, Holby City, Midsomer Murders, Exile, Doc Martin, Robin Hood, Dalziel and Pascoe, Peak Practice, The Bill and many more.

Her most famous roles since then have been in soapland. She returned to Coronation Street as Denise Osbourne, and also played Joanie Wright in Emmerdale.

She reunited with Russell T Davies in his 2015 drama Cucumber, a spiritual successor to QAF, in which she reprised her role of Hazel as a ghost haunting Canal Street.

6. Esther Hall (Romey)

In QAF, Esther played one half of a lesbian couple who conceive a baby with the help of their gay best friend Stuart. You probably know her best for playing Kris Marshall's wife in those series of BT adverts from 2005 to 2011.

Esther has also had roles in Spooks, Waking the Dead, Rome, Black Mirror, Silent Witness and Doctors.

7. Jason Merrells (Phil)

Already known for playing Matt Hawley in Casualty, Jason played Stuart and Vince's good friend Phil in QAF. Since then, he featured in Clocking Off, had a starring role in Cutting It, and went on to appear in Waterloo Road and Lark Rise to Candleford before landing the role of Declan Macey in Emmerdale, a character he played for five years.

He has since featured in drama Safe House and Sky One's Agatha Raisin. He has also continued to act in various theatre productions including 12 Angry Men on the West End.

8. Maria Doyle Kennedy (Marie)

After playing Stuart's sister Marie, Maria has gone on to have a successful acting and singing career.

She played Catherine of Aragon in The Tudors, and has had the regular role of Siobhán Sadler in Orphan Black since 2013. Maria has also had roles in Redwater, Call the Midwife, Downton Abbey and Dexter. In film, she has featured in the likes of Jupiter Ascending, The Conjuring 2 and Sing Street (reuniting with Aidan Gillen).

Maria has also released eight studio albums (with a ninth on the way).

9. Peter O'Brien (Cameron)

Australian actor Peter was already known for playing Shane Ramsay in Neighbours back in 1985, and played an accountant who began a relationship with Vince in QAF.

Since then, he has kept busy, appearing in TV shows ranging from Gossip Girl, Casualty, Doctor Who and White Collar Blue. He also popped up in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

He is married to Lord of the Rings actress Miranda Otto, and they have a daughter together.
