For her first-ever Youtube entry, Regine Velasquez gave netizens a virtual tour of her walk-in closet for the first time, revealing her jaw-dropping shoe collection.
As any fan of the Songbird would know, Regine is an avid shoe collector. In fact, she even created an Instagram account, with the handle @fashionpicturest, dedicated to her shoes.
The narrow closet space, which she shares with husband Ogie Alcasid, is a treasure trove of eclectic, eccentric, and as she says, "badass" designer pumps, stilettos, and boots. "Mahilig ako sa odd-looking shoes," she says, noting that she typically balances them out with a black or beige dress.
Regine admits she doesn't wear all of them as often because they tend to kill her feet. She explains, "Considering sa aking height, maliit paa ko. I’m only a size six. Ganun kaliit na 'yong paa ko [and] I’m medyo big so hirap ako kasi laging masakit yung paa ko. I cannot find any comfortable shoes actually so what I do is I buy shoes and tiis ganda nalang."
According to the singer, her designer shoe collection began when she started earning. "Noong nagkaroon na ako ng konting kita, naging curious na ako sa mga branded na shoes.
"I think it started noong nag-Hong Kong ako—'yong 'di ba, meron akong Asian album—it started there kasi sa Hong Kong ko nakikita 'yong mga branded na sapatos… And in fairness d'on sa mga mamahaling sapatos, matibay talaga. Pero minsan, masakit lang talaga sa paa."
While she shops from various designer brands, her favorite label is Louis Vuitton. "I’m a big fan of Louis Vuitton shoes talaga," Regine says. She has even kept an overused, two-decades-old pair of LV wedges that Regine says she used to wear all the time.
Towards the end of her video, the Songbird shared how she ended up buying 20 pairs because she couldn't get the shoes she had always wanted from Louis Vuitton.
Back in the early '00s, she visited the designer label's massive store in New York to buy a particular pair. "When I got there, nakita ko na nandoon sa display. Sa umpisa pa lang, sinabi na agad sa akin na wala akong size. Sabi ko, 'Can I at least try them on?' Sabi ng guy, 'No.' Na-discriminate ang lola niyo. So, I went to Neiman Marcus. Maraming branded shoes. Ang ending ko ang inuwi ko ay 20 pairs of shoes."
The story doesn't end there. "So pagkatapos ko bilin 'yong 20 pairs, pumunta ulit ako ng Louis Vuitton. Noong marami na akong bitbit, pinapasok na ako sa loob ng Louis Vuitton at nabili ko siya."
Laughing it all off, Regine said: "But it’s okay. I don’t think you should feel bad pagka na-discriminate ka. You go back and like kick some ass!"
