Sandara Park: The line between girl-next-door and a star

We are living in an era where confidently expressing oneself is valued. Now, we are in an age where we go beyond ourselves, respect others, and strive for mutual prosperity. Reflecting this trend intuitively is 'fashion.'

One of the keywords symbolizing the modern era is 'genderless.' Evolving under various historical and cultural influences, 'genderless fashion' continues to thrive in the 2024 S/S season.

A photoshoot with Sandara Park, perfectly aligned with the experimental and daring fashion keywords, has been conducted. She introduced herself as "Sandara Park, like a vitamin that always gives good energy," extending a warm greeting.

Through this photoshoot, Sandara pulled off a concept that reinterprets genderless fashion by combining feminine innerwear, bold looks, and masculine blazers.

When asked if it felt awkward to showcase a genderless style that she doesn't often wear, she responded, "I love genderless fashion. I believe there is no distinct boundary between men's and women's fashion. Even during my 2NE1 days, I enjoyed neutral looks, which is why I liked this concept and was able to try out cool poses."

As a confident fashionista and celebrity, Sandara Park, who confidently embodies this concept, expressed her thoughts on how she could be portrayed. She shared her motto, saying, "I love the phrase 'Just do it!' I've always loved fashion and have taken on various styles. Not everything I did received love from everyone.

Sometimes, pushing boundaries and presenting new aspects earned me a spot on the 'worst-dressed' list. However, since I dislike staying the same, I aim to have confidence and continue to try different styles in the future."

Sandara's appearance exuded strength and charisma, contrasting with the girl-next-door and shy image often portrayed in the media. Sandara revealed that she is naturally reserved and tends to be quiet in her daily life, not enjoying taking the lead.

She explained that the only place where she can't help but become powerful and charismatic is on the stage. She added, "The power of music is truly remarkable. There are times when it feels like someone else is coming into me, especially on stage. But more importantly, it's the power of the audience, the fans. In front of them, I feel like I become a charismatic performer-Sandara Park."

Throughout her career, Sandara has experimented with bold hairstyles and outfits, showcasing a wide range of looks to the public. She shared one of her experiences that she found challenging to pull off saying, "One of the most challenging things I tried was the Vegeta hair during the 'I AM THE BEST' era.

The sky-high hairstyle was, 'ugly but I feel pretty' in its own way. I'm aware that some people laughed at that hair, and initially, I felt embarrassed too. As I continued performing on stage, I began to feel that my look was becoming more and more stylish. I even had that hair for Coachella, and the confidence it gave me allowed me to fly around the stage!"

Sandara was asked if she has any genderless designers or fashion celebrities she's interested in or follows regularly. She mentioned her admiration for the model 'Agyness Deyn.' "Rather than specifically genderless, my favorite model is Agyness Deyn. I happened to come across her photos, and I ended up looking at a lot of them. The way she pulls off both mannish looks and lovely styles were impressive, and beyond that, I found her truly beautiful. I also love Converse, and seeing that she wears similar items made me feel a connection."

When Sandara was asked about artists or projects she would like to collaborate with in future fashion collaborations, she expressed her excitement, a bit shyly. "I would be really happy to collaborate with brands or designers I love. I'm a big fan of street fashion, so I'd love to collaborate with Nike sneakers or Supreme. Recently, I met Rick Owens at an event in Korea, and I thought it would be fun to do a project together. I've admired the brand since my debut, and meeting Rick Owens in person was even more impressive than I had imagined!"

Being a celebrity frequently invited to fashion weeks, Sandara was asked which of the four major fashion weeks (New York, Paris, Milan, London) she thinks suits her the best. "Actually, I have attended Paris Fashion Week the most, so I would like to explore other cities as well. I haven't been to London Fashion Week yet, and I've only been to New York and Milan once each.

That's probably why when fans think of 'Sandara's Fashion Week,' they often think of 'Paris.' It was unfamiliar at first, but thankfully, as I continued attending, it became more comfortable. Naturally, it brought more fun and excitement. So, considering my current experiences, I would choose 'Paris' as the city that suits me the best."

She began by expressing gratitude to the readers for the enjoyable time discussing various fashion stories. In conclusion, she said, "I hope to continue meeting you all through diverse music and fashion.

Just like now, I want to provide healing through music and bring fresh excitement and fun through fashion. I hope you will continue to support me in the future (laughs). And if you have something you want to do, I hope you confidently and courageously take on challenges and always stay happy.“
