About This Product

The Early Wonder Camellia is a gorgeous new selection from the Southern Living Plant Collection. This variety produces stunning formal double blooms, lavender-pink in color. These flowers appear in Fall, earlier than other Camellia japonica varieties, hence the name Early Wonder. The foliage is consistently dark green and evergreen. Each leaf is leathery and glossy, with a light serration on the edge. At maturity, this camellia reaches 6 ft. to 8 ft. tall and 4 ft. to 6 ft. W. It's ideal for an accent, privacy planting or along a property line. The Early Wonder Camellia is hardy from USDA Zones 7-9. It needs 3-hours to 4-hours of direct sun or all-day filtered sun to thrive. Plant in slightly acidic, rich soil with good drainage for best results. Water your new plantings 2 to 3 times per week for the first growing season. Fertilize in spring with a slow-release acidic plant fertilizer. We recommend applying 3 in. to 4 in. of mulch around the base of the plant as well. These Camellias are well-rooted in their 2 Gal. pots and will range from 15 in. to 20 in. tall. They are not guaranteed to be in bloom on arrival.

Q:Is Wonder Camellia with Formal Pink Double Blooms deer resistant?
by|Sep 12, 2023

Answer This Question

A:  No the Early Wonder Camellia is not deer resistant.

by|Sep 13, 2023

A:  Early Wonder Camellia is often considered to be deer-resistant, meaning that deer are less likely to feed on this plant compared to other more palatable options. Camellias, in general, have leathery leaves and produce flowers with a waxy texture that deer find less appealing. While no plant can be considered entirely deer-proof, Early Wonder Camellia is a good choice for landscapes in areas with deer populations. However, it's important to keep in mind that deer preferences can vary, and in times of extreme food scarcity, they may sample even less preferred plants. Using additional deer deterrent strategies, like fencing or repellent sprays, can further protect your camellias if deer are a significant concern in your area.
