Day 43: Gillette, WY to Buffalo, WY-- First glimpse of the mountains

Bighorn Mountains in the distance!

Bighorn Mountains in the distance!

Today was super hot, with the peak of 95 degrees at around 2 when we finished the ride. It was incredibly average in elevation gained and mileage, which is nice and allows us to rest a bit before tomorrow. It will only be 42 miles, but almost 7,000 feet of climbing to Meadowlark Lake. The whole ride today we tried not to think about the ride tomorrow, while simultaneously looking out for the first sign of the Bighorn Mountains! When we finally saw them in the distance, they struck both fear and admiration in our hearts… tomorrow’s going to be tough! But challenges like this give us opportunities to push ourselves and test our limits, and end with incredible satisfaction.

I don’t have much to report on from the ride, but after dinner we went to get ice cream and had a very meaningful and amazing connection with the person working there; they took notice of our shirts and told us about their experience with cancer. Sometimes it feels like the stars align. We’re meant to be exactly where we are, and it becomes so clear how important it is to connect with people, and be reminded that we are all fighting against the same thing. Tomorrow our ride will be dedicated to Raven, and Raven’s father Doug.

P.S. I might not have internet tomorrow, so there might not be a blog posted until a day or two later, depending on the wifi.
