Did you know “The Gods Must be Crazy Movie” The main actor of "The Gods Must Be Crazy", Nixau Toma, was only paid $300, even though the film produced in 1980 made over $200 million. He died a poor wretched bushman despite making millions of dollars for other people. He was hugely exploited at the negoting table. In fact, he was merely told what was negotiated and he accepted with happiness. Africans have always been exploited. The film is basically about the conflict between the new order and the old epoch: The Namibian tribal people in a remote African desert live a happy life, but it is all torn to pieces when a Coca-Cola bottle falls from a plane. The confusion and myth surrounding the strange object disorganized the bushmen as they made efforts to unravel the mystery object. He died on 5th July 2003 at the age of 59. He died a poor man because he was not only exploited but he lacked the necessary skills to even realised that he was exploited. Yes he died poor after playing the lead role in a film that earned more than $200 million in revenue. Where else does it happen if not in Africa?
James Foong Thank you for sharing! Trust that Nixau Toma is redeemed in Heaven, the eternal gain now though his days on earth are short at age 59 and hope he has loved ones on earth that will receive the due blessings in kind. Time flies and 20 years now. My takeaway from your sharing here is this African is a simple but contented man! All is well with his soul!
Ouch, didn't know he has passed on USD300 does sound really unfair leh Captain James Foong 😱😅
Wow! bring me back to the old days bro Foong. Thank you for sharing. Take care .
James Foong this was one movie that I laughed almost constantly in the cinema. Ah, the naive and innocent days bygone. Fun days yeah ?
Remember this hit comedy. I'm shocked to hear this injustice and exploitation. Did the producers even have heart? Probably in this era, there is a need to expose even the past unacceptable immoral practices like this, similar like what the perpetrators caught in me too movement. New documentary material for Netflix probably?
Omg this movie brings back good memories, but it's sad to know the lead actor was exploited.
He doesn't have a manager to represent him otherwise he will be a rich man
Toma's aren't born but raised as one! Worldly wise is a trait that is self-learned from life exposure and experiences! The lack of exposure makes a person a victim! Of course, some people never learn despite the best brought up
If one looks back through the years in the film & related industries? Might find that most were not paid much. A small percentage of those working "made it big".
