In 1986, Jennifer Connelly was the 16-year-old babysitter who had to navigate a labyrinth in order to save her baby stepbrother from the Goblin King.
The Goblin King?
We can thank director Jim Henson for such wonders, which are back in theaters this week in “Labyrinth.”
Henson supervised the film’s puppets and effects, while George Lucas produced the film and Bowie created music for the movie.
Connelly, a future Oscar winner (”A Beautiful Mind”) who stars in the upcoming Apple TV+ series “Dark Matter,” plays Sarah in a big early-career role. While the musical fantasy film didn’t do well at the box office, “Labyrinth” drew many fans on home video and TV in the years since its release.
In the story, written by Terry Jones, Sarah, frustrated by her babysitting duties, wishes that goblins from a book called “The Labyrinth” would take away baby Toby.
When he really vanishes, she has to enter another realm to get him back from Jareth, the Goblin King, and solve the labyrinth in 13 hours, or the baby will turn into a goblin.
“Labyrinth,” rated PG, runs 1 hour and 36 minutes. The movie returns to theaters Wednesday, March 6 (7 p.m.) and Sunday, March 10 ( 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.) via Fathom Events and Sony Pictures.
