Fans of 1980s-era rock and pop are never disappointed with the acts that perform under the big tent at Salt Creek Beach parking lot each spring.

This year, Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo hit the audience with their best shot at the 30th annual ROTH Conference and hip-hop trio Migos appeared on another night of the four-day investment conference held at the Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel. The gathering draws 1,000 individual investors and 500 companies from around the world for panels, presentations and meet-and-greets on topics such as artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, cryptocurrency and cannabis.

Byron Roth and his team make sure that the event isn’t all work and no play by bringing in food trucks, bars and bands. There’s also a strong focus on giving back.

For the seventh year, Roth hosted sports activities to support Challenged Athletes Foundation, which helps those with physical challenges gain and maintain access to sports. When the amount raised in 2018 is included, the ROTH Conference has raised more than $1 million for CAF. Those funds help with grants to help individuals pay for prosthetic running feet, sport wheelchairs, coaching and other things not usually covered by insurance.

During the same weekend as their cool conference, Byron and Ted Roth received the Golden Heart Award at the Athletes First Classic. Held at Monarch Beach Resort, the gala sponsored by and named for the Orange County-based sports agency draws NFL athletes, celebrities and philanthropists. The two-day event that honored the Roths includes a golf tournament and is a major annual fundraiser for the Orangewood, a nonprofit that treats some 2,000 foster and community youth each year by helping prepare them for independent adulthood.
