On Monday, December 18, 2023, GMA Network created a meme on social media featuring a video of Kris Bernal getting a haircut that didn't go as she expected.
It was a snippet taken from the makeover episode of StarStruck: The Next Level, which originally aired between December 2007 and March 2007.
The guest hairstylist, Richard Perello, then wanted a shorter hair for her.
He said, "Sa lahat ng girls kasi, lahat sila long. Inisip ko sa kanya, bagay naman yung short."
Kris threw in, "One-inch lang, trim lang."
The result, however, was an "emo" hairstyle, which is now viral.
Kris posted the meme on her Instagram Stories with the caption: "Yung trauma ko dito.. chareeeet."
She added a tongue-out emoji and the hashtag #Starstruck.
Netizens were amused by Kris's funny response to the meme.
Fellow celebrities Kristof Garcia, Carla Abellana, Rita Daniela, Janeena Chan, and Vanessa Pena dropped smiles and laughing emojis.
Kapamilya actress Maris Racal joined in the fun and featured Kris's reaction as a meme on her broadcast channel on Instagram.
Meanwhile, Neo Perello, Richard's son, came across the video on X, formerly Twitter, and issued an "apology" to Kris on behalf of his dad.
He quipped, "MADAM KRIS BERNAL AKO NA PO YUNG NAGSOSORRY ON BEHALF SA TATAY KO," with five 'loudly crying face' emojis.
The hairstylist himself shared an interesting tidbit.
In the comments section of GMA Network's post on Instagram, Richard pointed out that the hairstyle was fashionable back then, and it wasn't entirely his choice to give Kris that specific look.
He wrote, "Haha grabe kayo sa akin that time uso yan at utos yan ng gma sa akin cut it short Di naman po tlga ako gugupit nyan pero sabi go!
"pero dami k naging client after k macut hair nya dami gusto pagaya 2005 i think pa yan [emoji]."
