It looks like Heart Evangelista got hooked to watching Celebrity, a trending K-drama about the accidental meteoric rise of a fashion influencer on social media.
In her Instagram Stories yesterday, August 3, 2023, the Kapuso actress posted scenes from the popular series that seemed to have drawn so much hugot feels from her.
Celebrity stars Park Gyu Young as Seo Ah Ri, who was once a rich girl and campus trendsetter but unexpectedly took a fall down the society ladder unbeknownst to her peers.
The pilot episode alone was geared to captivate audience as it establishes how Seo Ah Ri witnessed the ugly truth about how far some people would go to ruin someone else's reputation to get ahead of the game.
This was what Heart reacted to as she posted the introductory scene from the show about how there's a certain "cheat code" for a social media personality to attain fame and status as an influencer.
The first-person narration from the lead character Seo Ah Ri goes like this: "Fame and celebrity. We'd all like a taste of the good life. How did I become a celebrity?
"What's the reality of this world and how can you gain entry? Isn't that something everyone would like to know?
"Remember that cheat code I mentioned? All right, I'll tell you. I've been itching to tell someone for a while.
"But... keep one thing in mind: that you must question everything and believe what you want to.
"Now then, for the first cheat code, shall we start with a hashtag? This is going to be a pretty long story.
"Hope you've got some popcorn."
Heart, for her part, captioned her post using the pilot episode's title "#getfamous" with a crying emoji.
Then Heart also posted the epic feud between two social media influencers who were supposed to be close friends but ended up backstabbing each other in the story.
The character Biniimom (Jin Yo Seon) gatecrashed a high-society party to confront her girl friend Oh Min Hye (Jeon Hyo Sung) who banned her from the guest list.
Filled with loathing, Biniimom exclaimed: "Didn't you tell me you wanted to be my best friend, huh? Sucking up to me, latching on, like a parasite!"
Oh Min Hye shouted in response: "Shut the hell up! You're lying!"
But Biniimom continued, "It was all thanks to me! You used to be nothing. You got access to my connections.
"Thanks to me, your follower count grew because you hoard your face on my feed, you b***h!"
Then Biniimom went physical and grabbed Oh Min Hye by her hair in front of all the affluent guests.
Heart captioned this scene with a short but cryptic "Omg" plus another crying emoji.
Note that Heart did not exactly say if the scenes from Celebrity is something she has personally experienced or if she thinks it's close to what happens in the real world of fashion influencers like her.
What's clear is that she is no stranger to intrigues after 25 years in show business.
As for Celebrity, it seems to be a binge-worthy Netflix K-drama with its theme that appears relatable in this era of digital content creation where social media personalities can easily get caught up in word war and controversies.
