Loksak

Review by Dennis R. Newton with GunWiki at The Shot Show

Loksak is a well known waterproofing system designed to protect your gear. The small size is generally marketed for keeping cell phones dry when they are in a wet area. With the advent of the modern coatings and waterproof ratings on this generation of phones, tablets and cameras one could believe this is an obsolete technology but you would be wrong. Putting your electronics deliberately in wet conditions places them at unnecessary risk. All they need is a scratch or flaw on the motherboard  coating and you will get to see the static of death screen. It may be a small percentage but it does happen. I’ve seen videographers place their “waterproof” phones in a swimming situation to take underwater pictures only to see them fail. Do yourself a favor and buy an underwater rated speciality camera.

If you spend a great deal of time in the outdoors, are in situations where you are in the rain, fog or high humidity often then go the extra step and protect your phone. I’ve used multiple Zip-loc bags to do this but it is awkward and not as efficient as having a covering designed for the purpose. The Loc-Sakis simple. Just drop in your phone. Close the seal on the pouch and you can continue to use the phone without exposing it to moisture.

This is especially good for water rides at an amusement park, downpours waiting for your uber or just hiking in the wilderness.

Simple, inexpensive and effective. Recommended.

They also make a Smell Proof Loksak designed to keep your food in when you are around wildlife. The first application is to put your food in it when you are in bear country. Bears can smell food for up to 20 miles. They will start tracking it and may come to pay a visit if you are not protecting it. Hanging is good in some situations but its kind of like putting the goodies on a high shelf, eventually it will be found. If it is not as smellible then the bears are much less likely to be in your camp. This is good for Canisters, Ursacks, and regular food bags. Keep them from knowing you're carrying. It also applies to mice, rats, squirrels and other food pests.

This product works better if you don't put your food scented hands all over the outside. Keep it clean and you will keep your food.

Recommended.
