Louis Vuitton creative director Nicolas Ghesquière has many muses, but few have had the longevity of Jennifer Connelly. The designer has dressed the actress for more than a decade and over the years their friendship has led to many of Vuitton’s best red carpet moments. Test driving tricky trends and pulling off looks few others could, Connelly serves as the ultimate ambassador for Ghesquière’s futuristic aesthetic and her fearless approach to dressing keeps things exciting. At last night’s premiere for her latest film, Only the Brave, she arrived in one of the season’s most unlikely statement pieces: the casual yet luxurious silk gym shorts that Ghesquière showcased at Louis Vuitton.

Connelly’s outfit was all about juxtapositions. With a floral frock coat worn over sporty gear, the vibe was dressy meets sporty, vintage meets modern. On model Atty Mitchell that look evoked youthful cool at the show, but Connelly added a grownup touch for real life. Ditching the sneakers and adding on a pair of towering black heels, the actress elevated what could have been casual to a non-traditional red carpet moment. With her hair sleek and minimal jewelry, she kept the focus on her ornate topper. The shorts may have added a little fun, but the metallic brocade was what popped in all those step and repeat pictures.
