The first brands to fly the flag for the barrette revival trend were Simone Rocha, Shrimps, and Ashley Williams, star labels of the London fashion scene. From beaded models to rhinestoned clips, these brands have been champions of the accessory since Spring/Summer 2018.

Hair barrettes as head-turners

In the space of three seasons, from London to Paris via Copenhagen, the barrette revival has taken over from a hair accessory standpoint. Many designers have introduced their versions: jeweled designs by Versace, featuring adorned bobby pins exemplifying pure opulence, delicate designs meant to sweep the hair to one side, think Veronica Lake style by Rodarte and tortoiseshell versions by Gucci, featuring the brand's name spelled out in sparkling stones. As for jewelry brands, Charlotte Chesnais, Alighieri, and Annelise Michelson have all introduced their versions of the hair accessory, from refined to graphic.

More contemporary artsy designs stand out among the many, designed in gold or silver, they stand as the ideal accessory for adding a chic, and creative, touch to a bun or ponytail. As per usual, the best of the barrette style can be spotted on the streets, where It-girls can be seen adding their own touches to the popular hair accessory. If you need more proof, look no further than fashion week Fall/Winter 2019-2020, where barrettes gleamed on the front rows of the most high profile fashion shows. Less is more stands true yet again with this latest hair trend, without forgetting the diversity of styles. Just like your go-to purses and shoes, the accessory will be your next go-to hair look this season.
