The truth might hurt.

There's been an imposter in our midst this entire time: Ed Sheeran. Or should we say Rupert Grint?

That's right. This week, plenty of fans were totally stoked to see "Ed" perform on MTV's "After Hours." But instead of being treated to an acoustic performance of "Shape of You," the crowd was put on an emotional rollercoaster. In the video clip, "Ed" strolls up to the mic and just as he's about to start singing drops a major truth bomb. He puts down his guitar, pulls off his (literal) tattoo sleeves, and opens up his flannel to reveal a "Gryffindor" T-shirt. Because, surprise, it's actually Rupert Grint.

The fellow red-haired star finally came clean on the show, announcing to everybody that Ed Sheeran has been a complete hoax. Rupert says, "I wanna say something. The truth is Ed isn't real. My name is Rupert Grint. After Potter all I wanted to do was stretch myself. Create some real magic. So, I created a character. He'd have the voice of an angel and possibly wispy facial hair. So I bought a guitar and a bunch of flannel. I called him Ed. Ed Sheeran. Such a weird name, right? Not cool like Rupert Grint. I just didn't expect everyone to think he was real. He became my greatest acting achievement. And the bane of my existence. From this day forward, Ed is no more."

Throughout his entire monologue, fans faces go through all the emotions: shock, intrigue, and of course, devastation. One girl in the crowd even shouts out "NO!" and has to be held by her friend.

OK, so obviously it's all a gag, especially seeing as how the running joke is that Ed and Rupert are the same person, but we do have to admit that we love how into it the Harry Potter actor is. TBH, it's almost as good as his dramatic reading of "Shape of You." See for yourself below:
